Zong, one of Pakistan’s top cellular and digital service providers, has officially launched its network in Gilgit Baltistan, marking a major step forward in the region’s digital development.
The launch event, hosted at the Gilgit Serena Hotel on September 27th, saw the activation of 59 new 4G sites, with plans for further expansion next year. The occasion was honored by the presence of key dignitaries, including Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Minister of Law and Tourism, Government of Gilgit Baltistan, who served as the chief guest.
Prominent attendees included Miss Suraya Zaman, Advisor IT for the Government of Gilgit Baltistan, Mr. Gul Abid Wazir and Mr. Ehsan ul Haq from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Lt. Col. Muhammad Ali Ahmed from the Special Communication Organization (SCO), and Riaz Ahmad, Secretary IT for Gilgit Baltistan. The event underscored the collaboration between public and private sectors in developing digital infrastructure for the region.
Khawaja Shehzad Ullah, Executive Director of Sales & Distribution at Zong, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “We are excited to bring Zong 4G’s high-speed internet to Gilgit Baltistan. This expansion is part of our commitment to reducing Pakistan’s digital divide and supporting economic growth through advanced technology.”
In his message, Zong’s CEO, Mr. Huo Junli, praised the teams involved in the expansion and highlighted the significance of enabling 4G services in Gilgit Baltistan. He noted, “This step not only bridges connectivity gaps but also supports Pakistan’s digital transformation and the Belt and Road Initiative. Seamless communication is crucial for economic growth, cross-border trade, and regional integration.”
Mr. Huo Junli also acknowledged the support of the Special Communications Organization (SCO) and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), whose collaboration was vital in bringing advanced communication services to Gilgit Baltistan.
Zong’s expansion in the region reflects its commitment to advancing Pakistan’s digital agenda and providing inclusive connectivity to all corners of the country.
