Microsoft has officially confirmed that its AI chatbot, Bing Chat, will be available on non-Microsoft browsers, such as Google Chrome and Apple’s Safari. This expansion is Microsoft’s aim to make its ChatGPT-like AI chatbot accessible to a wider range of users, as it was previously limited to Microsoft products like the Bing mobile app and Microsoft Edge browser.
According to reports, Bing Chat has been spotted in other browsers, but the company had not yet made an official announcement about this expansion. Microsoft is currently testing access to Bing Chat in Safari and Chrome with select users, and once the standard testing procedures are complete, they plan to expand access to more users.
Users who gained access to Microsoft’s Bing Chat AI Chatbot on Windows received a pop-up in the taskbar of Windows 10 or 11, offering the opportunity to try Bing AI in Chrome. Alternatively, users can go to Bing.com from their preferred browser and click on the “Chat” icon to experience it. However, it’s worth noting that in some tests, Bing Chat in Chrome has certain limitations compared to the version available in Microsoft Edge. For instance, the Chrome version supports only five messages per conversation instead of the 30 available in Microsoft Edge, and it limits the character count to 2,000 instead of 3,000.
Microsoft’s Bing Chat AI Chatbot Expands to Non-Microsoft
OpenAI’s GPT-4 model powers Bing Chat’s ChatGPT-like experience, but the company has not yet confirmed the differences between the various versions of Microsoft’s Bing Chat AI Chatbot in different browsers. Additionally, Microsoft has not disclosed the exact start date of the expansion to other browsers, the supported platforms, or whether the tests will include users in global markets.
Apart from the browser expansion, Microsoft has integrated Bing Chat into various other products since its launch earlier in the year. It is now available in the Bing mobile app and Edge browser for iOS, Android, and desktop. Microsoft also announced a version of Bing Chat for enterprises, including business-focused data privacy and governance controls. Furthermore, Microsoft has expanded the chatbot’s capabilities with Visual Search, enabling it to respond to questions about uploaded images.
